The Freeport City Council held its regular meeting on April 12, 2022, at the Freeport City Hall. Mayor Russ Barley and Council member Elizabeth Brannon were not present.  Four employees were honored with plaques for their years of service:

• Greg Grant – 5 years

• Sara Bowers – 5 years

• Jennifer Duke – 6 years

• Gary Thomas – 6 years

Parks and Recreation Director Travis Digges announced the upcoming PDGA Disc Golf Tournament on May 14. They are expecting 72 players.

Digges has also received a quote for two security camera systems. The first one is for $11,999 that would cover the shop, barn, and bathrooms. The second for $15,424 would replace the existing system at the two concession areas. Money for the purchase comes from grants already received for the parks department. Vandalism unfortunately has increased in the last couple of months.

City Manager Charlie Simmons reported on the improvements made in the last few years. One or two streets have been resurfaced each year. Gas and diesel tanks were installed a year and a half ago. American Metal Bearing company plans on coming on or about April 16 for a couple of weeks. The vice president has already purchased property here.

City Clerk Kathy Gatewood requested that the city hire a system administrator. The council approved the request.

Representative Brad Drake and Senator George Gainer have reportedly appropriated

 $3,500,000 for Marquis Way.
