Walton wins Homecoming contest

The Walton Braves defense did not allow the Northview Chiefs a first down in the first half of play while the offense exploded for 36 points in the second quarter as the host squad posted a 49-7 Homecoming win on Friday night at Everette Yates Memorial Stadium.
Walton, 8-0 on the year, forced two first half turnovers as Thomas Brack recovered his second fumble in successive games while cornerback Juanyeh Thomas picked off his sixth pass of the season to help trigger the onslaught of points.
Senior running back Azende Rey scored the first two touchdowns of the contest, running in from 12 yards out, then grabbing a 22-yard touchdown pass from Jace Fielder to give the home team a 14-0 lead in front of a packed crowd.
Fielder, who would throw five touchdown passes on the night, would toss his first interception of the season in the first quarter but the deflected pass was one of the few mistakes the Braves would make on offense on the night. Fielder wound up with scoring tosses of 15 and 18 yards to Andricus Moore, 23 yards to Alfonza Glenn and 25 yards to Rey to cap a 43-0 lead at intermission.
Brack took Fielder’s place in the second half as the final 24 minutes was played with a running clock. Brack added a 44-yard touchdown pass to Grady Williams before the Chiefs mounted a scoring drive that saw Gavin Grant hit Luke Ward with an 11-yard touchdown pass on the final play of the game for the 49-7 outcome.
Walton’s defense allowed Northview only 18 total yards in the first half and just 117 for the entire game. The Braves yielded only 39 yards on the ground as the squad prepares to travel to East Gadsden(1-7) on Friday night for their final district game of the 2015 season.
At halftime of the game, Crystal Flores was named Homecoming Queen with Peyton Betts chosen as the Homecoming King.
