The DeFuniak Springs City Council called a special meeting Wednesday, May 25, at the DeFuniak Springs City Hall. Finance Director Debra Gibson has submitted her resignation, and June 3 will be Gibson’s last day in office. A motion was called to modify the language in the job description to be consistent with charter and ordinance and for the job to then be advertised. The motion was carried unanimously.

In the meantime, the city is in the middle of its annual audit. Having the finance director leave at this time prompted the council to allow City Manager Robert Thompson to engage with the auditor and assist with financial matters during the hiring processes. A motion to expedite a timeframe on the hiring process was also carried unanimously. The council aims to have the position filled by the next scheduled meeting.

In other business, the council discussed the Florida Rural Water Association. The city’s Utility Asset Management Plan Resolution was not on the previous scheduled meeting’s agenda, and the council wanted to facilitate its approval. The motion was carried unanimously. Then, the Runway Expansion RFP was discussed and a motion was carried unanimously to have the calendar approved by the Department of Transportation (DOT) and to have typographical errors corrected.
