Virginia Dair (Campbell) Pridgen passed away peacefully Saturday, Dec. 2, 2017 at her home in Gaskin, Fla., with her children by her side. Virginia was born on Sept. 24, 1930, to Lehman Shelby “Sam” Campbell and Elizabeth Lenoria (Beasley) Campbell. She spent most of her career with the Walton County School District, first as a teacher and then as a principal at Paxton High School. She was an active member of the First Christian Church of DeFuniak Springs and the Beats Me band, regularly performing at the Chautauqua Rehabilitation Center. Virginia lived life to the fullest and was known to say she had enjoyed every day of her life. She is preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Leland Samuel “Sam” Pridgen; brother, James Campbell; and sister Catherine King. Virginia is survived by one son, Kenneth Pridgen and wife Debra, of Gaskin; one daughter, Kathie Gail Sewell and husband Jack of Dothan; one sister, Carolyn Dixon of DeFuniak Springs; grandchildren, Melissa Thomason and husband Eddie of DeFuniak Springs, Amy Brassell of Gaskin, Jacqueline Sewell of Dothan, and Samie Wright and husband Buddy of Gaskin; great-grandchildren, Houston Wright, Summer Padgett, Sam Thomason, Brianna Wright, Lyndsey Wright, Autumn Brassell, Ty Thomason, and Baylee Virginia Brassell; and many nieces and nephews. A time of visitation was held Tuesday, Dec. 5 from 10 a.m. until 11 a.m. at the First Christian Church of DeFuniak Springs. Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. with Reverend Tucker Aplin and Reverend John Dixon officiating. A private family interment will be in the Pridgen Family Cemetery in Gaskin.
