Tommie Simmons

Mr. Tommie Simmons, 77, passed away Monday, Dec. 4, 2017. He was born
on April 3, 1940, in Ponce de Leon, Fla., to Thomas Jefferson Simmons
and Lela Mae Carnley Simmons.

Mr. Simmons was a lifelong resident of Ponce de Leon, Fla. He
graduated from Ponce de Leon High School in 1958. He was a devoted
husband, father, and grandfather. He owned and operated his own lawn
care business for over 20 years.

He was a very talented musician having played in many churches and
events throughout the area. He was the lead guitarist for the Faith
Travelers Gospel Group.

Mr. Simmons was preceded in death by his father and mother; infant
son, Tommy Curtis Simmons; brothers, Clyde Simmons and Cletus Simmons;
and sister, Lela Cassidy.

Mr. Simmons is survived by his loving wife of 54 years, Barbara A.
Simmons of Ponce de Leon; one son, James Travis Simmons and wife,
Venita D. Simmons of Westville, Fla.; two grandchildren, Barbara Sue
Simmons and husband, Kevin Lee Bowers of Ponce de Leon, and Stetson
Hunter Simmons of Caryville, Fla.; one brother, Clethan Simmons and
wife, Emi of Pensacola, Fla., and two sisters, Clela Braxton and
husband, Bill and Gladys Braxton and husband, Jr. Braxton both of
Westville.

Funeral services were held Friday, Dec. 8, 2017, at Clary-Glenn
Funeral Home Chapel, with Rev. Mitchell Carroll officiating.

Burial followed in the Old Mount Zion Cemetery in Ponce de Leon, FL.
