Helen Jeannette Whitley Tellis, age 83, of DeFuniak Springs, Fla., passed away Friday, Aug. 4, 2017 at her residence. She was born June 13, 1934 in Florala, Ala. to Neal Jethro and Clara Pearl Boone Whitley, the eighth of 11 children. In the mid-fifties, Jeannette moved to DeFuniak where she raised her seven children. She was a faithful church member, a member of the choir, as well as a dedicated worker at Union Springs Baptist Church where she attended for more than 20 years. Her personality was one that enabled her to never meet a stranger and was loved by many. She is preceded in death by her daughter, Andrea Tellis Kelly and one grandson, Jarren Tellis. She leaves to cherish her memories, her children: Willie Paul Tellis Jr (Vynita), Haywood Jerome Tellis (Ann), Beverly Tellis Smith (Bernard), Helen Paulette Tellis, Tracy Renea Campbell, Beasker Harrimal Campbell (Vashonia); Jeannette was known as “Granny” to her grandchildren: Michael and Eric Kelly, Xavier, Sophia, James, and Lazarus Tellis, Alex and Andrea Smith, Kristin, Natalia and Casey Tellis; beloved sister, Juliaette Whitley Barge; son-in-law, Alonza Kelly; a host of great-grandchildren, nephews, nieces and friends. A time of visitation will be held Friday, Aug. 11, 2017, from 6 until 7 p.m. in the chapel of Davis-Watkins Funeral Home, 1474 Highway 83 North, DeFuniak Springs, FL 32433. Funeral services will be held Saturday, Aug. 12, 2017 at the Everlasting Word Church, beginning at 1 p.m. Memories and condolences may be shared with the family at www.daviswatkins.com.
