Walton County has approved holding two workshops, on Oct. 6 and 7, to take input from community members and other stakeholders on possible changes to the Walton County Beach Activities Ordinance.
The Walton County Board of County Commissioners (BCC) voted at its Sept. 8 regular meeting to approve holding the workshops. County staff are to host the workshops, with plans for input from the meetings to be provided to the BCC at its Oct. 27 regular meeting.
The Beach Activities Ordinance regulates use of the beach and conduct on the beach and other water bodies and includes rules for beach vending.
Public workshops on the ordinance at the end of the beach season have been a regular practice by Walton County for a number of years. Input from the workshops provides guidance to the BCC in considering changes to the ordinance in the interest of improving harmony and safety on the beaches.
According to a notice for the workshops, “The purpose of the workshops is to provide the opportunity of an open forum to discuss possible revisions to beach activities ordinance and to gather public input. Two or more Walton County elected or appointed officials may attend. This meeting is open to the public. For additional information regarding this meeting, contact Tony Cornman at (850) 622-7895 or cortony@co.walton.fl.us.”
The location for the workshops will be the county boardroom at Freeport Business Park, 842 SR-20 East in Freeport. The meetings are to begin at 1 p.m. and continue until 5 p.m. as needed on both days. The workshops will also be accessible to the public via ZOOM.
