South Walton Fire District Aug. 31 budget workshop recommendations

From SWFD

After holding a public budget workshop, the South Walton Fire District has proposed to continue providing services to the community at one of the lowest ad valorem tax rates for Independent Special Fire Districts throughout Florida.

The workshop was held on August 31, 2021, with Fire Chief Ryan Crawford presenting the Fiscal Year 2022’s Strategic Priorities and Planning Principles to the Board of Fire Commissioners and attendees.

The Staff’s Fiscal Year 2022 budget recommendations include:

• Enhancing personnel to add six firefighters, one administrative staff position, and one facility maintenance technician

• A proposal to build out the unfinished third floor of the logistics facility to accommodate growth

• Designing and engineering the new Miramar Beach fire station to replace the current, 33-year-old building

• Funding designated reserves for future planning, including costs for an additional fire station being planned in the WaterSound North area

“The Fiscal Year 2022 budget addresses the increasing need for measured growth to match the South Walton community’s expectations of service,” Crawford said.
