School Board honors Jackson family, receives check from All Sports Association [PREMIUM]

The Walton County School Board held its regular meeting on Sept. 6, 2022, at the Tivoli Complex/Board Room. 

Superintendent Russell Hughes introduced the “Jackson 5” and presented them with a plaque. The Jackson family has a combined 179 years of service to the Walton County School District. Donna Jackson served at Freeport Elementary and has just retired. Ken Jackson, her husband, also volunteered in the media center there, and ran the Quarterback Club at Walton High School. Cynthia Jackson is a PE teacher at Walton Middle School. Mitch Jackson, her husband, worked at Walton Middle and Paxton as assistant principal. Maerea Jackson Kent, Interventionist at Maude Saunders Elementary.

The All Sports Association presented the Walton County School District with a check for $25,000 to help fund their sports department. 

On the consent agenda:

• Tennis courts at Walton High School to be resurfaced

• Mossy Head School to receive playground equipment

• Approval was given to the Paxton High School for FFA students to travel to Kissimmee, Florida on September 8-9, 2022, to attend the Chapter President Conference. 

• Approval was given to South Walton High School to travel via charter bus to Gatlinburg, Tennessee on April 13-16, 2023, to attend the Smokey Mountain Music Festival. 

Approval was given to Paxton High School Ag/Aero Students to travel via Charter bus to Auburn University in Auburn, Alabama on September 29, – October 2, 2022, to attend Space Camp. All expenses will be paid for by CAPE funds (Career and Professional Education Act). 

The 2022-2024 School Health Services Plan was approved with Stop the Bleed training and kits, from the American College of Surgeons (ACS) and the ACS Committee on Trauma (ACS COT).

The Walton Academy, Inc. transportation agreement was approved. 

The board approved the agreement between the city of Freeport and the Walton County School Board concerning the use of the city of Freeport’s pool for South Walton’s Swim Team. 

The School Board approved the job description for a Public Information Officer. 

Approval was given for Educational Management Consultant Services, Inc. (EMCS) Contract for Consultant Services Related to ARP (American Rescue Plan) Homeless.
