School Board elects new Chairman and Vice-Chairman

On November 20 at 10 a.m. the Walton County School Board (WCSB) held two meetings at the Tivoli Administrative Complex in DeFuniak Springs. The purpose of the first meeting was for the reorganization of the Board as well as the reorganization of the Walton County Public Education Finance Authority, Inc.

For the reorganization of the WCSB, Bill Eddins was elected Chair and Marsha Winegarner was elected Vice-Chair. For the reorganization of the Walton County Public Education Finance Authority, Bill Eddins was elected President, Marsha Winegarner was elected Vice-President, and Superintendent Russell Hughes was elected Secretary.

Following the reorganizational meeting was a regular WCSB meeting.

Consent Agenda — For approval on the consent agenda was one purchase order request exceeding $25,000; Freeport High School (FHS) 2018-19 girls weightlifting schedule; South Walton High School (SWHS) 2018-19 Winter Guard schedule; Walton High School (WHS) 2018-19 boys and girls basketball schedules and soccer schedules; and a trip request for SWHS robotics students to travel to the UCF Arena in Orlando, Fla. to participate in the first Robotics Regional Competition. All items on the consent agenda were approved.

Safety & Security — The Board approved an Educational Security Grant for the Walton County School District (WCSD) in the amount of $322,688.00.

Human Resources — In human resources the Board approved the November 20, 2018 Personnel Recommendations and Personnel Addendum.

The Board gave WCSD Chief Financial Officer Melissa Thompson a warm goodbye as she has resigned from her position for new opportunities. Thompson’s last day was Monday, November 26.
