A presentation and request for direction on conceptual plans for beach access improvements at the Walton Dunes property that had been on the agenda for the Feb. 11 Walton County Board of County Commissioners (BCC) meeting have been rescheduled due to the illness of one of the commissioners.
At the Feb. 11 meeting, BCC Chairman Bill Chapman reported that District 5 Commissioner Tony Anderson was not present for the meeting due to a medical emergency and that Anderson had requested for the agenda item to be continued to the March 10 BCC regular meeting.
It had been envisioned that the March 10 meeting would be held at the South Walton Annex, but Walton County Administrator Larry Jones told the commissioners that there would be a conflict due to plans by the Walton County Supervisor of Elections to use the BCC boardroom at the Annex for early voting. In response, the commissioners opted to change the meeting location for the March 10 meeting to their boardroom at Freeport Commons.
On a motion by District 2 Commissioner Danny Glidewell, the officials also rescheduled the Walton Dunes presentation and request for direction for 2 p.m. at the Freeport location in advance of the 4 p.m. regular meeting.
The BCC boardroom at Freeport Commons is located in the Walton County Board of County Commissioners section of the business park, which is at 842 SR-20 East in Freeport.
The presentation is to include several options use of the Walton Dunes property as a handicap regional beach access, among those the addition of a dune walkover, restrooms, additional parking, handicap access, and also a turnaround option at the 2.3-acre county-owned beachfront property, which is located on Beachfront Trail in the Eastern Lake community. The property is currently in use as a neighborhood beach access with limited parking and no dune walkover or restroom facilities.
