Paxton City Council met Friday, Sep 30, for the final budget hearing of the 2022/2023 fiscal year. Newly appointed City Clerk Judy Williams started by reading the general fund, and water’s over- expenditures for the fiscal year of 2021/2022. A motion to approve both accounts’ over-expenditures was passed. The sewer account had no over-expenditures because usage was lower, leading to a lower revenue stream for the year. The council went on to pass a motion to allow any and all over- expenditures to account for the remaining expenses in October.

Before discussing the budget for the fiscal year 2022/2023, Williams discussed quotes for fencing around the cemetery. A motion to approve Trenton Dale’s quote for $6,400 was passed. Williams moved on to discuss insurance coverage for the LED sign being purchased for in front of Paxton City Hall. Because the current policy already approves $25,000 for outside equipment damage, it was recommended to not buy additional coverage. A motion was made to cease the search for additional coverage.

The discussion then moved to the budget for the fiscal year of 2022/2023. The General Fund budget was approved for $777,125, with $169,500 for payroll expenses and $607,625 for expenditures. The water department’s budget was approved for $513,000 with $175,000 for personal services and $338,000 for expenditures. The sewer budget was approved for $191,000, which was the same as last year.
