Niceville native makes it through the Blind Auditions on NBC’s The VOICE.

Story by STACY MARTIN

Jared Herzog, a native of Niceville, took to the stage and turned three chairs in the Blind Audition on NBC’s The Voice airing on Oct. 7. Herzog is a 21-year old senior at Lee University and serves on the elite LeeU Worship Team.

On stage during the audition, Jared sang “Speechless” by Dan + Shay, turning the chairs of Blake Shelton, Gwen Stefani, and John Legend. Stefani and Legend battled it out, enticing Herzog to be apart of their team. Ultimately Herzog chose team Legend. “I’ve wanted to work with you for a long time. I’m picking John.” Jared announced.

From a young age, Herzog has always had a passion for music, where he participated in worship band, choir groups, and even apart of Niceville High Schools Opus One choir.

Music has always been apart of the Herzog family. Jared has three other siblings, one of whom is a current music major at Lee University, studying classical, opera, and Broadway show tunes. Jared’s mother, Suzanne Herzog, also has a passion for music and currently teaches art and music at Gateway Academy in Miramar Beach.

When asked about the community support, Suzanne stated, “We have been overwhelmed,” and “We continue to get such strong words of encouragement and support.”

After Jared’s first year of college, his parents relocated to Freeport.  Both attend Destiny Worship Center (DWC) in Freeport and serve on the worship choir.  And Suzanne also serves on the Lead Worship Team. Jared’s mother is also active in the community volunteering for Grace Rides – a non-profit equine-assisted therapy for those with special needs in DeFuniak Springs.  And although Jared comes back to Freeport to visit during summer and holiday breaks, Suzanne comments that “Jared loves Niceville, and it will always be his hometown.”

Faith, family, music, and community have been the essential ingredients for door-opening opportunities in this chapter of Jared’s life. His mother affirms that “Jared feels very blessed and favored by God, and he knows where his blessings come from.”
