Thursday, Oct. 12 at 5 p.m., the Northwest Florida State College Chautauqua Center
hosted a Fall Semester Art Show in Gallery 103. The event’s theme, “Let Your Spirit Soar,”
presented works of art that clearly or relatively expressed the artists’ ideas of spirituality that
varied from subtly to overtly religious; traditionally or independently spiritual; as well as mystical
or philosophical. The event served as a chance to celebrate art, chat with the artists, find out
who won “Best in Show,” and enjoy fall-themed snacks with homemade apple cider. The juried
art show included 11 local artists: Jackie Wagoner, Becky Summer, Kristina Perry, Stacy Martin,
Jennifer Ludemann, Suzanne Le Loup-West, Jan Hannon, Sue Grimes, Russell Ferris, Jan
Faubel and Debbie Barker.
The evening’s judge, Melissa Brown, chose artist Jackie Wagoner’s acrylic painting
“Eden” for the title of “Best in Show.” Brown stated that she appreciated each work of art on
display at the gallery and took the time to walk around the room and explain what she
appreciated about a few of the works of art on display. Honorable mentions included “Patriotic
Log Cabin” by Jennifer Ludemann, “In the Beginning” by Suzanne Le Loup-West, and “Southern
Serenity” by Sue Grimes.
