At the Dec. 28 Board of County Commissioners (BCC) meeting, Commissioner William Boots McCormick brought up the fact that the residents of Freeport are in desperate need of a community center. The city has a plan to build a community enter in the next five years, but in the meantime, McCormick requested the board’s approval to allocate $15,000 of recreational plat fee money to repurpose a space at 842 E Highway 20 for use as a community center. The space, an approximately 1,800 sq. ft. unit, was recently vacated by Green Air, an HVAC company.
The county’s Public Works Department will be asked to repurpose the space for the community’s use. The motion passed unanimously.
