The Freeport City Council held its regular meeting on Nov. 9, 2021, at the Freeport City Hall.

The council approved the purchase of a new generator to replace the old one. The price of $119,450 is below allotted budget.

Discussion was held to negotiate with Doug Duncan to purchase an 80-acre tract for the new wastewater treatment plant. Ten acres would be for defense contract use.

The Walton County Economic Development Alliance (WCEDA) is negotiating with American Metal to move their company from California to Freeport. The council intends to donate 10 acres and waive capacity fees to induce them to come. The company makes bearings for submarines. There are currently 21 employees, and plans to expand to possibly 50. This would bring good paying jobs to the area.

Tim Ard spoke about the Veterans Day celebration planned for Thursday at 2 p.m. Thanks was given to Tom and Barbara Tillman for their hard work with the park. There will be a golf tournament on Nov. 20. The funds earned from the tournament will enable them to offer eight scholarships to Walton County students to further a career in the military.
