NOTE: Due to the Tuesday April 13 press deadline, this is a small portion of the April 13 regular Freeport City Council meeting. Part two (the balance of the meeting’s business) will be published in the April 21 edition of the DeFuniak Springs Herald – Beach Breeze.
On Tuesday, April 13, the city of Freeport held its regular council meeting at city hall. In attendance were Mayor Russ Barley and council members Elizabeth Brannon, Eddie Farris, Amanda Green, Elizabeth Haffner, and Mark Martin. The meeting began with hearing from owners of the Kona Ice Shaved Ice food truck, Wayne and Tami Scott, who made a request to be present at all the little league home games at Freeport Sports Complex to sell shaved ice. Kona Ice is the primary fundraiser for the little league. A motion to approve the request was made by Haffner and seconded by Farris, with the motion amended at the request of the City Attorney Clay Adkinson to include Kona Ice with and as a part of the city’s agreement with the little league with a stipulation subject to the amendment to the agreement with the little league. In the future, the little league will add vendors to the agreement request to the city of Freeport. The motion carried unanimously.
Next, the city approved the consent agenda with corrections and regular agenda with additions and moved to requests and updates from staff.
The Freeport council then received their 2020 Financial Audit review stating the city is in good financial standing.
Next was an update from the Parks Director Travis Digges who first thanked the council for allowing the Easter weekend egg hunt which took place at the park with a good turnout. Next was an update on parks and city pools with the pavers almost complete and the parks will begin looking for summer pool attendants.
