Freeport boys start 3-1

The Freeport Bulldogs picked up wins over South Walton and Pensacola Christian last week as the boys basketball team is off to a 3-1 start in coach David Felix’s fourth year at the helm of the program.
Against South Walton, the Bulldogs posted a 55-43 decision as junior guard Case Woodard scored 27 points to lead the host squad to a win against their chief rival and district foe.
Freeport built a 36-25 halftime lead as the squad hit 10-of-23 shots from the field in the first half, then shot even better after intermission as the Bulldogs connected on 7-of-17 shots from the field for a combined 17-of-40 shooting night from the floor.
South Walton was unable to recover as they hit only 18-of-55 shots in the contest and got to the free throw line just four times, making two shots.
Flint Bekkers led the Seahawks with 12 points while Tyler Gibbs added 11.
In the 59-48 win over Pensacola Christian on Thursday night, Woodard was at it again to the tune of 27 points as seven different players scored in the first half while the offense connected on seven of the team’s eight 3-point shots in the first 16 minutes of the game.
Freeport contained the Warriors’ 6-foot-8 center, Alex Dickerman, by forcing 20 turnovers as the visiting team connected on only 17-of-57 shots from the field .
Freeport hit on 21-of-50 shots from the field and 9-of-15 at the free throw line as eight different players scored in the game.
Team Notes: Pensacola Christian fell to 2-2 with the loss to the Bulldogs. South Walton rebounded under first-year head coach Deon Kennedy to a 2-2 record with a 48-46 win over Panama City Arnold and a 68-58 win at Jay. Freeport heads to Jay on Friday for a district outing before returning home for a game with Florala on Tuesday, Dec. 13.
