The city council of DeFuniak Springs met on April 5 for a special council meeting to provide their city manager candidate rankings and make selections for interviews from the first round of applications. The council also set forth to approve final interview questions and set times for the interviews. Five candidates were selected based on being ranked by two or more council members. Each council member had the opportunity to add one candidate to the final list they ranked and wished to interview. The city received 33 applications in total. The position is currently still open, and should none of the nine candidates make it to the hiring negotiations of the first round, the council will revisit the first draft adding any application that came through in the meantime.
The council will ask up to 30 questions to each candidate, and each will receive the same questions. HR Director Lacey Woodham will select five questions, and each council member will have a chance to submit five questions to HR for the interview process. The interviews will take place on Tuesday, April 13, at 9 a.m. and allow April 14 and April 15 to be alternate days if needed.
A special council meeting will be held on April 19 at 2 p.m. for voting on the final candidate; five votes are required to hire the new city manager.
