The City of DeFuniak Springs will be joining cities across the state in celebrating Florida City Government Week from Oct. 23-29, 2017.
Because city government is the government closest to most citizens, and the one with the most direct daily impact upon its residents, it is important that residents understand how their city operates, the services it provides, and the importance of their active involvement. The theme My City: I’m Part of It, I’m Proud of It will guide this year’s activities.
“We are excited about Florida City Government Week and hope to engage all our residents, our students, our senior citizens and our business community in our upcoming events,” said Mayor Bob Campbell. “This is an opportunity to help our residents become more informed about the many services we provide, which should lead to more knowledgeable citizen participation in the future.”
Florida City Government Week, sponsored by the Florida League of Cities, is a time to showcase cities and recognize the significant role played by city government in the lives of its citizens. The League is the official organization of the municipal governments in Florida, designed and established to meet and serve the needs of Florida’s cities and their citizens.

Monday, Oct. 23, 2017 is a regular City Council Meeting where Mayor Bob Campbell will read the proclamation claiming the week of Oct. 23-29, 2017 as Florida City Government Week. The meeting will begin at 6 P.M. at City Hall Council Chambers at 71 U.S. Hwy. 90 W., DeFuniak Springs.
Tuesday, Oct. 24, 2017 is a “Meet and Greet” of our city staff, elected officials and our new city manager. The event will be held at the Community Center, 361 N. 10th St., DeFuniak Springs in the Main Auditorium from 5 until 7 P.M. Light refreshments will be served.
Wednesday, Oct. 25, 2017, The Public Works Department located at 45 N. Park St., DeFuniak Springs will highlight the Street, Water and Sewer Departments from 9 until 10 P.M. Come out and meet the crews, ask questions and view some of the equipment.
Wednesday, Oct. 25, 2017, The City Fire Department located at 58 W. Burdick Ave., DeFuniak Springs will welcome guests between the hours of 9 and 10 A.M. Stop by, meet the staff, and feel free to ask questions as you examine the firetrucks and other apparatus.
Thursday, Oct. 26, 2017, The City Police Department located at 355 E. Nelson Ave., DeFuniak Springs will be hosting visitors during the hours of 9 and 10 A.M. The city staff is eager to meet our residents and answer their questions about the daily routines of our Police Department. Police cars will be on display.
Friday, Oct. 27, 2017, be sure to visit the City Airport located at 1931 U. S. Hwy. 90 W., DeFuniak Springs between 12 and 1 P.M. The Airport Staff will greet you and will gladly show you around the Airport. They will even remind you to come back for the 2018 Marvel of Flight in April.
The renovation of the Finance and Billing Department at City Hall should be near completion by the end of the month. If you get a chance, stop by and see the “new look” and meet the staff. The Administration Offices are in the City Hall Building as well and they welcome you to come by.
Next door to the City Hall is the City Annex, which houses the Planning Department, Code Enforcement, Grant Writer and Human Resources. The city staff welcomes each of you to come by, meet the staff and learn about the role each of them play in our city government.
