You are invited to attend public workshops to review Phase I of the Draft Comprehensive Plan Update for Walton County on Monday, May 15; Monday May 22; and Monday, June 5, 2017.

Walton County will be hosting these workshops to introduce the proposed work in progress changes to the Conservation, Coastal Management, Recreation and Open Space, and Housing Elements of the County’s Comprehensive Plan. Phase I is the first of three phases, each focusing on a different set of Comprehensive Plan Elements. Public Workshops for Phases II and III will be scheduled for future dates.

The public is invited to attend the workshops, learn about the proposed changes to these Elements, and provide feedback. This workshop is part of Walton County’s initiative to update both the Comprehensive Plan and Land Development Code to achieve a high quality built environment while preserving and enhancing the natural environment.

The public is encouraged to attend this workshop. Your input is important and will help the County ensure that the Comprehensive Plan continues to serve the needs of all County citizens.

City of DeFuniak Springs

Notice is hereby given that the City of DeFuniak Springs City Council will conduct a public hearing on Monday, June 12, 2017, at 6:00 PM CST, in the City Council Chambers, located at 71 US Highway 90 West DeFuniak Springs, FL 32433, to consider a variance request as follows:

Request: Jane French is requesting a variance to allow installation of a 12’x19’ carport in the historic district that encroaches into the required front yard setback.

At this hearing, City Council will seek public comment on Ms. French’s variance application, 2017-VAR-01. Following the public comment period, City Council will either grant or deny the variance request; they could also continue the request to a later date.  No additional public hearings are required in the consideration of this request.

Prior to the hearing, the proposed application may be inspected by the public during regular office hours at the Planning Department which is located in the DeFuniak Springs City Hall Annex, 35 US Hwy 90 West, DeFuniak Springs, Florida. Questions may also be directed to the Planning Department by calling (850) 892-8571 ext. 236.

In accordance with Section 286.26, Florida Statutes, “Accessibility of public meetings to the physically handicapped, whenever any board or commissioner of any state agency or authority, or of any agency or authority of any county, municipal corporation, or other political subdivision that has scheduled a meeting at which official acts are to be taken, receives at least 48 hours prior to the meeting, a written request by a physically handicapped person to attend the meeting, directed to the chairperson or director of such board, commission, agency, or authority, such chairperson or director shall provide a manner by which such person may attend the meeting at its scheduled site or reschedule the meeting to a site which would be accessible to such person.”

In accordance with Section 286.0105, Florida Statutes, “Notices of meetings and hearings must advise that a record is required to appeal, all persons are advised that, if a person decides to appeal any decision made by the board, agency, or commission with respect to any matter considered at such meeting or hearing, he or she will need a record of the proceedings, and that, for such purpose, he or she may need to ensure that a verbatim record of the proceedings is made, which record includes the testimony and evidence upon which the appeal is to be based.”  Appeals of City Council decisions are heard by the Circuit Court of Walton County.
