South Walton softball tops Port St. Joe

Apr 5th, 2013 | 0

The South Walton softball team was one of the few Area 5 squads to compete during Spring Break last week and it paid off for the Seahawks as they won a key district contest over Port St. Joe on Thursday afternoon by a 4-2 score.

The Sharks got a run early to take a 1-0 lead after three innings of play and added another with the help of an error in the Seahawks’ outfield in the fourth inning to stretch the lead to 2-0.

South Walton trimmed the lead to 2-1 in the bottom of the inning as Tabitha Gaydos scored on a throwing error after Sharks pitcher Makayla Ramsey put two on in the inning.

Gaydos would tie the game with a single of her own later in the game and Camille Cosson gave the Seahawks the lead with a single that drove in Meagan Ellison. Gaydos would later score for a 4-2 lead with all the runs coming after two were out in the inning.

Meagan Ellison saw the Sharks put runners on the corners in the seventh inning but the Seahawks pitcher got a strikeout and grounder back to the mound to snuff the comeback and give the Walton County squad a 4-2 win.

The Lady Seahawks are 12-7 overall and 8-2 in district play and are scheduled to travel to Franklin County on Friday to close out the district slate.
