KANE WAS JUST AS HAPPY TO SEE THE KIDS as they were to see the German Shepherd. K9 officers demonstrated the ways that the county’s four-legged deputies search for drugs or other contraband and explained the process that goes into training the dogs to work in law enforcement. County deputies and about 25 kids from the local area spent the week of July 8 – 12 getting to know each other at the first summer day camp hosted exclusively by the Walton County Sheriff’s Office (WCSO). A RETIREMENT PARTY was held on Friday, July 19, for NWFSC Chautauqua Center Director Barbara Jones (center with hat). She was joined by fellow staff members and friends alike for cake and light refreshments. “It is very nice that the staff would do this for me,” Jones said. “This is a bit of a bittersweet moment for me leaving the school I love. However I do feel very good about my successor. Julie Terrell will bring a great energy to the Chautauqua Center. Jones spent close to 30 years with the institution and plans to come back as a student in the near future. (Photo by Jeffrey Powell)
