Freeport City Council holds brief meeting

Apr 20th, 2012 | 0

Fire Chief Ben Greenslait opened a very short Freeport Council meeting on April 10 with a report that he has been receiving phone calls about the opening date for the swimming pool and that he needs guidance on when to open and what rates to use. He also noted that concession sales last year did not cover the cost of labor, product and equipment required. Mayor Mickey Marse indicated that rates for the pool should be the same as last year and Councilman Earl King added that if the county furnished financial support then the practice of having different inside and outside-of-city rates would have to be discarded. It was agreed that more information was required and the Council approved a motion to table the discussion until the next meeting.

Marse advised the Council that a request for waiver of fees for use of the Community Center on July 17 has been received from the Okaloosa/Walton Transportation Organization. The Council approved the request.

Marse reported that the Audit Report has been received and that there are no significant issues or findings. The Council approved accepting the report.

Miscellaneous comments were made that the car show at the Easter outing at the Sports Complex was good. It was also heard that there were some confrontations between parents at the Easter egg hunt.

Concern was expressed that the mannequin being used for advertising at the business center on the north side of SR-20 might not be appropriate. At the very least it should not infringe on the right-of-way of SR-20. The matter will be referred to the City Planner for comments.
