A large number of holiday revelers lined SR-20 in Freeport on Friday night, Dec. 2 to see the annual Christmas parade and tree lighting ceremony. According to Freeport Fire and Rescue Chief Ben Greenslait, “this is the biggest Christmas parade we have ever had.”

Numerous floats and other vehicles distributed candy and beads to the waiting youngsters of all ages. After the parade, visitors moved to the parking lot in front of city hall for the 20th annual tree lighting.

“Thank you all for joining us,” said Freeport Town Planter President Eleanor Turner. “Let’s make sure not to forget the reason for the season. I would also like to recognize the Town Planter Society. They do such hard work along with the Freeport city workers, this event would not be possible without them.”

Several singing groups and individuals entertained the crowd which was able to join in on a few songs. Freeport Mayor Mickey Marse also addressed the crowd.

“It is good to see every one of you tonight,” said Marse. “The parade went well and I hope everyone enjoys themselves on this 20th anniversary of the Christmas tree lighting.”
