Qualification for this position will include the following: skilled automotive mechanic must be able to work on all types of gas and diesel vehicles and equipment from light to medium and heavy duty. Must be able to diagnose and repair all mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic components that are in a municipality’s equipment and automotive fleet. Automotive technology training is preferred. Must have a valid Florida CDL Class “A” Drivers License or obtain one within the first 6 months of employment.

The City of DeFuniak Springs is now accepting applications for one (1) full-time Communications Officer for the DeFuniak Springs Police.
General Statement of Job – The duties of this position require a person to answer regular and 911 phone calls, operate a radio console and demonstrate proficiency in following established DeFuniak Springs City Marshal’s Office communications protocol with personnel in the field. Ability to assist the public, officers and other employees of the City Marshal’s Office. Communications Officer will be solely responsible to the City Marshal or his designee for the discharge of his/her duties.
Minimum Qualifications – Must be at least 19 years old with a high school diploma, Florida General Education Development Test (GED), or Out-of-State GED, with transcript of test results. Valid Florida Driver’s License if required to drive a City Marshal’s office vehicle. Must be able to operate computer, two-way radio, copier, fax and telephone. Type 35-40 correct words per minute. Must be able to work rotating shifts, weekends, holidays, and overtime scheduled and unscheduled. All employees must pass a pre-employment background check and drug screening.
Certificates – NCIC/FCIC certification and 911 certification within 6 months of employment.

General Statement of Job – A Public Safety (911) Communications Supervisor is responsible for supervising all assigned shifts of Public Safety (911) Dispatchers that receive and process calls for police services. The Communications Supervisor works in the Communications Center, which is a twenty-four hour, seven days per week operation involving Single-agency dispatching and a city-wide automatic dispatch system. This position is responsible for the supervision of a sophisticated communications dispatch operation including data entry and retrieval systems. In addition to supervisory responsibilities, additional duties include: answering operations and procedural questions; logging equipment malfunctions; handling complaints from citizens or patrol; advising the media of incidents being worked in DeFuniak Springs; compiling patrol computer aided dispatch statistics; and conducting research on various issues / items. A Communications Supervisor may also serve as a liaison with other police specialty units and is also responsible for all training of newly assigned communications personnel. This position also performs other related duties as required. The Communications Officer / Dispatch Supervisor will be solely responsible to the City Marshal, or his designee, for the discharge of his/her duties.
Minimum Qualifications – Must have previous dispatch supervisory experience or a minimum of 5 years of actual dispatch experience in positions of increasing responsibility. National Emergency Police Dispatch Certification (EPDC) and Florida Dispatch Instructor Certification is desired. Must be at least 19 years old with a High School Diploma, Florida General Education Development Test (GED), or Out-of-State GED, with transcript of test results. Valid Florida Driver’s License if required to drive a City Marshal’s office vehicle. Must also be able to operate computer, two-way radio, copier, fax and telephone. Type 35-40 correct words per minute. Must be able to work rotating shifts, weekends, holidays, and overtime scheduled and unscheduled. An applicant must pass a pre-employment background check, drug screening, and a polygraph or voice stress analysis exam prior to being considered for interview.
Certificates – EPD certification, NCIC/FCIC certification and 911 certification within 6 months of employment.
