BIRTHDAYS ARE TO BE REMEMBERED, no matter what side of the world one is on. Local resident Thom Brooks sent a birthday greeting to his son, Master Sgt. Dave Brooks, 19th Special Forces Group, USA / NG (center).
The message read, “Hope you have a moment to celebrate youir birthday. In 1960, I was on a remote site. Your mom had someone send me a telegram, announcing your birth. It took the damn telegram three weeks to get to from Alaska to Japan, to where I was and to me. So, today I am thinking about you and all the wonderful things you have accomplished in those short years. Love you, and Happy Birthday, Dad.”
In response, Dave replied, “Thanks Dad, I was a little busy the last few days in the Tora Bora region. I had to sleep out in the rain, little food, and in (Eastern) Indian country. It had everything. Back at the base now, hot food and showers makes everything seem better. Attached is a picture of me and two of my combat translaters. They are pretty good guys. Please tell everyone I said hello, Dave.” Consider it done.
