SORRELLS NAMED BAY HIGH FOOTBALL COACH
By PATRICK CASEY
Former Niceville and Walton football coach Frank Sorrells has been hired to take over at Bay High School in Panama City.
Sorrells has 33 years coaching experience, 29 as head coach, and has compiled a 211-99 won-loss record.
Sorrells, 63, comes to Bay after three seasons as head coach of his high school alma mater in Virginia. Sorrells guided Niceville to the 1988 state championship, nine state playoff appearances and a regular-season record of 101-15 from 1987-1998.
Sorrells took over at Walton High School in 2002 and compiled a record of 28-15 in four seasons and he took the Braves to three playoff appearances, including an 8-4 record in his first season that saw the Braves knock off Qunicy Shanks 49-48 in overtime before losing at Jacksonville Bolles in the second round.
Sorrells succeeds Mike Healey at Bay High, who had initial success at Bay before the program slumped to 0-9 in 2008. Principal Mackie Owens said Sorrells was chosen from a pool of 175 applicants.
