A collision on Interstate 10 left one person dead and a one-year-old child with minor injuries. The accident occurred at around 5:16 p.m. on March 27, near mile marker 83 on I-10.
Florida Highway Patrol (FHP) investigator Trooper Matthew Blansit reported that two vehicles were traveling west on I-10 in the outside lane. One was driven by Jamie Missildine, 29, of DeFuniak Springs, and a passenger, one-year-old James Watts, also of DeFuniak Springs. In the other vehicle were driver Michael MacKinnon, 56, and passenger Patricia MacKinnon, 57, both of Jonesboro, AR.
The report states that, “for unknown reasons,” Missildine’s vehicle drifted onto the north shoulder, and the driver over-steered in an attempt to get back onto the roadway. Missildine then apparently lost control and entered onto the southbound roadway. MacKinnon moved into the inside lane to avoid Missildine and the two vehicles collided, coming to a stop on the roadway.
Missildine was killed, and James Watts received minor injuries. Neither of the MacKinnons was injured.
The report indicates that alcohol was not a factor, and that all persons were wearing seatbelts. No charges are pending.
