WALKER FINAL HEARING SET FOR MARCH 9
By JEFFREY POWELL
Attorneys for former Walton County Commissioner Herman Walker filed three motions during what was supposed to be an infraction hearing on Jan. 7. Judge David Green denied the first motion calling for additional depositions to be obtained, citing precedents contrary to the motion. The second motion asked for an enlargement of time for the future arguments to be heard. In this instance Green approved the motion, saying, “I will allow more time for this case due to the nature of the charges.” The third motion was left without a ruling as the judge had already allowed for an enlargement of time. That motion was one for a continuance.
Walker faces multiple charges stemming from a traffic accident that took the life of 38-year-old Eric Buharp in north Walton County. Walker maintained his not-guilty plea during Wednesday’s proceedings. Walker has been charged with passing on a curve, exceeding maximum weight on his tractor-trailer rig, owner permit use with defective equipment, mis-adjusted brakes and no periodic inspection.
Walker declined an opportunity to comment concrning the day’s proceedings.
Green set a final hearing date for March 9, at 9 a.m.
