SHERIFF’S DEPUTY TERMINATED FOLLOWING INTOXICATION ARREST
The Walton County Sheriff’s Office (WCSO) was notified in Jan. 8 that one of its deputies had been arrested in the city of Geneva, AL. Deputy Stephen Hornsby, 28, of Geneva, had been stopped for a speeding violation. During the stop, Geneva Police determined that the Hornsby had been drinking and was in possession of alcoholic beverages within a dry county.
He was arrested for public intoxication and possession of an alcoholic beverage in a dry county. He was transported to the Geneva County Jail. Supervisors of the WCSO went to Geneva after being notified of the situation, and placed Hornsby on administrative suspension pending further action of the sheriff’s office.
After reviewing the case reports, audio and video tapes of the traffic stop provided by Geneva Police, Sheriff Mike Adkinson ordered Hornsby’s termination from WCSO, effective immediately. Hornsby had been a Walton County deputy since July 2007. He was a WCSO dispatcher prior to that.
