NOTICE OF INTENT OF THE SCHOOL BOARD
OF WALTON COUNTY, FLORIDA TO ADOPT THE ADDENDUM TO THE
2013-2014 STUDENT
PROGRESSION PLAN

The School Board of Walton County, Florida, hereby gives notice of its intent to adopt the proposed addendum to the 2013-2014 Student Progression Plan, which by reference is incorporated as part of School Board Rules, pursuant to the procedures set forth in the Administrative Procedures Act.

PURPOSE AND EFFECT:  The purpose and effect of the adoption of the addendum to the 2013-2014 Student Progression Plan is to present to school personnel, parents/guardians, students and other interested citizens the administrative procedures required to implement state legislative and local pupil progression requirements.

SUMMARY:  The District Student Progression Plan is adopted each year by the School Board of Walton County, Florida, and sets forth the policies and procedures relative to enrollment, promotion, retention, accelerated/ decelerated placement, transfers, instructional programs, accelerated programs, extended year programs, dropout prevention/retrieval programs, student assessment and exceptional student education. An addendum has been proposed to address elementary course code changes mandated by the Florida Department of Education and dual enrollment policy in secondary education.

LEGAL AUTHORITY:  The adoption of the addendum to the 2013-2014 Student Progression Plan is authorized by Sections 1001.41, 1008.25, 1008.34, 1001.03 and 1008.22 Florida Statutes, and the law implemented is Section 1008.25 Florida Statutes.

ECONOMIC IMPACT:  The adoption of the addendum to the 2013-2014 Student Progression Plan will not result in any additional costs to the School District.

A public hearing will be held by the School Board of Walton County, Florida, at 5:15 p.m. during the regular board meeting on September 17th, 2013, in the Board Room at the Tivoli Administrative Complex, 145 Park Street, DeFuniak Springs, Florida, for the purpose of considering adoption of the addendum to the 2013-2014 Student Progression Plan.  Any interested person may appear at the hearing and present evidence and argument and be heard concerning the adoption of the addendum to the 2013-2014 Student Progression Plan.  Immediately following the public hearing the School Board of Walton County, Florida, will consider final action to adopt the addendum to the 2013-2014 Student Progression Plan.

The entire text of the 2013-2014 Student Progression Plan, including the proposed addendum, is on file and available for inspection during regular office hours at the office of the Superintendent of Schools, Walton County, Florida, located at 145 Park Street, Suite 2, DeFuniak Springs, Florida.  Copies of the 2013-2014 Student Progression Plan, including the proposed addendum, are available to the public at the Superintendent’s office.

If a person decides to appeal any decision made by the School Board with respect to any matter considered at such meeting or hearing, such person will need a record of the proceedings, and for such purpose, such person may need to ensure that a verbatim record of the proceedings, which record includes the testimony and evidence upon which the appeal is to be based.

AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY OF PAXTON, FLORIDA, REQUESTING AND CONSENTING TO THE INCLUSION OF ALL OF CITY WITH A MUNICIPAL SERVICE BENEFIT UNIT OR OTHER SPECIFIC GEOGRAPHIC AREA DESIGNATED BY WALTON COUNTY TO FIRE RESCUE SERVICES, FACILITIES, AND PROGRAMS; PROVIDING FOR ANNUAL RENEWAL OF SUCH REQUEST AND CONSENT; PROVIDING FOR SEVERABILITY; AND PROVIDING AN EFFECTIVE DATE.

A public hearing for the second reading and adoption on ordinance 13-01 will be held on the 17th day of September 2013, at the PAXTON TOWN HALL, PAXTON FL AT 6:00 PM, located at 21872 US Hwy 331 N Paxton. All interested parties may appear at the meeting.
