WALTON COUNTY SNOWBIRD NEWS

Nov 26th, 2008 | 0

Thankfully, due to the hard work of several volunteer and leaders, the second Walton County Snowbirds (WCS) newsletter has been updated to include many more activities. Always refer to waltoncountysnowbirds.com for regular updates.
Much thanks to Hugh and Marilyn Barnard, who tend our website and steer the newbies in the right direction. Having just received an email that my area of southwest Ontario has just received over 60 cm (three feet) of snow and that the Hwy. 402 from Port Huron Michigan/Sarnia Ontario to London, Ontario, will be closed for several days,  I’m glad our biggest concerns are getting tee times and checking out the Black Friday sales.
Registration will take place at the Faith Assembly Church on Nov. 24, Dec. 1,8,15,22,29 and Jan.2,5,12,14,19, 26 and Feb 2 and 9. Cost will be $7 and will last from 8:30-10:30 am. The church is located on Geronimo Street, near the Miramar post office. As previously reported, the Destiny Church will not be used for general meetings. Final dates and sites are still being finalized.
Book discussions will be led by Valerie Beall at Beach Retreat on Jan. 15, Feb. 19 and March 5. Call Valerie at 837-8624 for further information.
Golf scramble dates will be posted on the website along with playdays when they become available. Sue and Ken Dickinson 837-1457 will answer questions for scrambles, while Butch Niver can help out with playdays at 873- 4570 later in December. Registration for the Golf Garden leagues will begin at the regular registrations. WCS still require convenors for the Tuesday golf leagues. Please contact any of the above if you have questions and might be able to help.
Storage items may be picked up at Affordable Storage on most Fridays and some Wednesdays according to the schedule on the website.
Once again Hugh Barnard in association with the South Walton Computer Club will be running weekly sessions that are very popular. More information will be available at the registrations. Call Hugh at 654-9129.
Beginning Ballroom dance will take place on Mondays at Faith Assembly Church from 6:45 till p.m. Leonard and Janet Hoover will settle on the dates in December. Diane Likhite 837-3037 will coordinate Line Dance at the same location on Mondays from 3-5 p.m. WCS President Vivek Likhite will be convening the tennis and will list site and dates when they are available.
In the music world, WCS is very fortunate to have David Ott returning with a six-session series on the Mysteries of Music. These discussion sessions will take place at The Faith Assembly Church on Mondays beginning at 1:00. Sessions will run from Jan. 12 till February 16. Tickets for the complete series will cost $25 with an optional notebook available for $12.50.
Art and Bowling will be available again this year. Art workshops will take place at the First Methodist Church with Jan Young, Tuesday afternoons beginning Jan. 6 from 1-4 p.m. Bowling will be at White Sands Lanes at 653 Beall Pkway in FWB on Fridays at 1 p.m. Check the website for the first session. Euchre, mahjongg and bridge have not secured a site yet and bridge is in need of a convenor. Please volunteer, someone is needed soon. Remember WCS is only as good as its volunteers.
