The Walton Braves golf team captured a home match against Holmes County and Marianna at the DeFuniak Springs Country Club. Paul McClure led the way as low medalist with a 34 over the nine-hole match. Heath Morgan shot a 40, including a chip-in par from off the green on the seventh hole while Devin Partridge added a 42. Clay Cawthon rounded out the scoring with a 45 as Walton shot a 161 to defeat the Bluedevils (190) and the Bulldogs (197).
Rocky Bayou’s golf team grabbed a seven-stroke team victory over South Walton at Kelly Plantation a few days after South Walton had defeated the Knights at the Santa Rosa Country Club. Dylan Smith shot a 40 to lead the Seahawks in the nine-hole match with Billy Davis posting a 41. Jake Vermillion shot a 58 with Clair Deville posting a 68 to round out the scoring for South Walton.
Freeport’s volleyball team improved to 8-2 with a four set win over Vernon in a District 1, Class 2A match in Freeport. Vernon captured the first set 27-25 only to see the Bulldogs win the next three 25-16, 25-20 and 25-22. Lyndsey Jones had 10 kills while Heather Moore provided five aces. Stephanie Morrison provided 15 digs with Catherine Trotman adding 11 assists and Curstin Buford four blocks for the win.
Walton and South Walton met at the DeFuniak Springs Country Club on Thursday with Walton grabbing a team victory with a score of 155 to the Seahawks 180 in a nine-hole match. Paul McClure took low medalist honors with a 35 while Heath Morgan added a 38. Clay Cawthon and Hunter Kirby each shot a 41 for the Braves. South Walton saw Billy Davis log a 38 with Blake Ruden shooting a 43, Dillon Smith a 40 and Brandon Barrett a 59.
