VANDALS DESECRATE MAGNOLIA CEMETERY GRAVESTONES

Aug 13th, 2008 | 0

By JEFFREY POWELL

“We are very disturbed about the desecration to these grave sites and the effect it has on the families of those affected,” said DeFuniak Springs City Marshal Michael Adkinson. “This is a very sensitive issue.”
According to Adkinson, at least 19 and probably more headstones and grave markers have been vandalized in historic Magnolia Cemetery over the past two weeks. The crimes appear to be random and have taken place in both the western and eastern sections of the cemetery. Some of the stones in the eastern section are over 100 years old. At least two separate instances of vandalism have taken place.
The office of the City Marshall is asking anyone with information concerning these crimes to call 892-8511 or 892-8513. Callers may remain anonymous and information obtained that leads to the arrest and conviction of the perpetrators will entitle them to receive a monetary award.
