Dogs found under bridge possibly linked to Washington County abuse investigation

Nov 4th, 2010 | 0

By BRUCE COLLIER

The carcasses of seven dogs, reportedly greyhounds, were found under a bridge near the Walton/Washington County line on Oct. 31. A Walton County Sheriff’s Office (WCSO) report stated that a tip drew Animal Control investigators to the spot. An examination of the dogs’ decomposing bodies revealed numerals tattooed inside the ear of one of the dogs.
The discovery is suspected to be linked to a recent incident in Washington County at the Ebro Greyhound Park. In that case, Ronnie Williams, 36, of Ponce de Leon, was arrested and charged with 37 counts of animal cruelty when some 32 dead greyhounds, reportedly in an emaciated state, were found in cages and hidden in closets. Some dogs were also found alive there, and are under a veterinarian’s care. Williams, a trainer at Ebro, lives not far from the site of the most recent find.
