NOTICE OF INTENT OF THE SCHOOL BOARD OF WALTON COUNTY, FLORIDA TO ADOPT A REVISED RULE – CHALLENGED MATERIALS

The School Board of Walton County, Florida, hereby gives notice of its intent to adopt a revised rule entitled Challenged Materials.

PURPOSE AND EFFECT: The purpose and effect of the adoption of the revised policy, Challenged Materials, is to reduce the amount of time required to resolve complaints received by the district.

SUMMARY: The revised rule eliminates the school level review committee. Challenged Materials complaints will be heard by a district committee. In the event the person submitting the complaint disagrees with the decision of the district committee, the complainant may appeal to the school board.

LEGAL AUTHORITY: The adoption of this proposed policy is authorized by Sections 1001.41, and 1001.42, Florida Statutes, and the law implemented is Sections 1000.21, 1001.41, and 1001.43, Florida Statutes.

ECONOMIC IMPACT – The adoption of the revised rule, Challenged Materials, will not result in any additional costs to the School District.

A public hearing will be held by the School Board of Walton County, Florida, at 5:15 p.m. during the regular board meeting on May 6, 2008, in the Board Room at the Tivoli Administrative Complex, 145 Park Street, DeFuniak Springs, Florida, for the purpose of considering the revised Challenged Materials policy. Any interested person may appear at the hearing and present evidence and argument and be heard concerning the adoption of the revised rule, Challenged Materials. Immediately following the public hearing the School Board of Walton County, Florida, will consider final action to adopt the revised rule..

The entire text of the Challenged Materials revision is on file and available for inspection during regular office hours at the office of the Superintendent of Schools, Walton County, Florida, located at 145 Park Street, Suite 3, DeFuniak Springs, Florida.

If a person decides to appeal any decision made by the School Board with respect to any matter considered at such meeting or hearing, such person will need a record of the proceedings, and for such purpose, such person may need to ensure that a verbatim record of the proceedings, which record includes the testimony and evidence upon which the appeal is to be based.

The School Board of Walton County does not discriminate upon the basis of any individual’s disability status. Anyone requiring reasonable accommodation as provided for in the Americans with Disabilities Act to ensure to or participation in the hearing should contact Kay McBroom, Secretary to the Superintendent, at (850) 892-1100 at least two (2) business days in advance to make appropriate arrangements.

The name of the person originating the revised Challenged Materials policy is Cathy Hall and the name of the name of the person approving the revised policy for consideration by the School Board is Carlene H. Anderson.

The Notice of Rule Development required by 120.54, Florida Statues, was published on March 20, 2008, in the DeFuniak Herald-Breeze.

The Walton County Technical Review Committee will hold a public hearing on Wednesday, April 16, 2008 at 8:30 am at the South Walton Courthouse Annex in Santa Rosa Beach, FL 32459. The following items are scheduled for review and action:

1. BOARDWALK AT 30A PHASE 1 REVISION – Project number 08-013-00002. This is a minor development order application submitted by Seaside Engineering, Inc. requesting to reduce the scope for Phase 1 of the PUD to 68 single-family lots on 8.87 acres with no Amenity Area with a future land use of NPA/Infill. 2. WATERVIEW AT INLET BEACH PLAT – Project number 08-003-00007. 3. SUTTON PLACE PLAT – Project number 08-003-00001. This is a preliminary plat application submitted by Chad Thurner, requesting approval for a 2 lot single family subdivision on .52 acres with a future land use of infill. The site is located southwest of the intersection of U.S. 98 E and C.R. 30A, north of Walton Rose Lane (parcel number 36-3S-18-16100-000-0791.)

Bidding Documents may be obtained from the ENGINEER, Peters Municipal Associates, Inc., upon prior payment of FIFTY DOLLARS ($50.00) for each set, WHICH SUM WILL NOT BE REFUNDED. No partial or “split sets” will be issued. All checks for copies of the bidding Documents shall be made payable to Peters Municipal Associates, Inc.
