EXPLOSIVE DEVICE FOUND IN HOME

Sep 11th, 2009 | 0

A narcotics search warrant served at a residence west of DeFuniak Springs on the morning of Sept. 8 led to the discovery of a possible explosive-like device inside the home.  Walton County Sheriff’s Office narcotics investigators found what appeared to be a pipe bomb inside the home at 1884 Woodyard Road.
Once the device was discovered, the Region One Domestic Security Task Force Bomb Squad was alerted. Task force personnel from the Bay County Sheriff’s Office and the Pensacola State Fire Marshal’s Office trained in disarming possible explosive devices would arrive on the scene. With the use of a device, the suspicious object was neutalized outside the home. It was determined to be a live pipe bomb, The Federal Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives is also involved in the investigation.
The homeowner, David Lee Mitchem, was taken into custody by Sheriff’s Office Narcotic’s Investigators. Authorities found marijuana in and outside the house. Mitchem was transported to the Walton County Jail.
