OFFICIALS PUT OFF BEACHVIEW HEIGHTS MSBU DECISION

Concerns arising during discussion at a Sept. 1 special meeting resulted in Walton County comissioners putting off action to create a municipal services benefit unit (MSBU) in the Beachview Heights subdivision.
However, the commissioners were responsive to public safety concerns in the subdivision—part of the reason for the proposed MSBU—and directed staff to take immediate action to address safety issues on some subdivision streets.
The MSBU, a special taxing district for the funding of road and other improvements in the subdivision, has been under investigation by the county for almost one year. Residents in the affected areas had been balloted, with favorable results, on two occasions, in order to determine whether plans for the MSBU would proceed.
As proposed at the Sept. 1 special meeting of the Walton County Board of County Commissioners (BCC), the MSBU would have included not only road paving but burying utilities in the subdivision that are currently above ground.
