SPECIAL EXCEPTION APPROVED FOR D&H SAND

After a year and a half of contention between Walton County and the D&H Sand Pit near Rock Hill Road, a settlement agreement recently paved the way for the business to come into compliance with county code.
On Aug. 27, the Walton County Zoning Board of Adjustment (ZBA) approved, with conditions, a special exception to allow the sand pit to operate within a Large-Scale Agriculture land use area. The ZBA is currently tasked with review and consideration of applications for these exceptions.
D&H Sand has been operating since 2005 or longer without a county development order. The company has been in the application process for the order for some time after being found in violation by the Walton County Code Enforcement Board in June 2008 for failure to obtain the development order and other actions determined to be contrary to county code provisions….
