“This is a large piece of property and a large project,” said Angela Bradley of the St. Joe Company.
The project is known as the Topsail West Mixed Use Conceptual PUD (planned unit development). According to Bradley, the St. Joe Company does not envision getting started on Topsail West until late 2010 to 2012, and plans call for the project to be completed in six phases over a period of a decade. However, a first step toward the project becoming a reality took place on Aug. 25 with approval of conceptual plans and master plan drawings for the PUD by the Walton County Board of County Commissioners (BCC). The approval took place at the BCC regular meeting on that evening in DeFuniak Springs.
Topsail West is to include 308,300 square feet of retail space, 5,000 square feet of office space, 190 senior living units, 110 assisted living units, and 310 multifamily units, all on approximately 116 acres.
Bradley explained that the property on which the project is to be developed extends 5,300 feet along the north side of U.S. 98, from CR-30A to West Hewett and East Hewett roads, and its depth is from approximately 500 feet to 1,000 feet, depending on the parcel.
