BUDGET GETS SLASHED AND EL CHARO GETS BOUNCED BACK TO PLANNING BOARD

Back-to-back budget workshops and City Hall meetings revealed a reverse consensus on budget cuts by the DeFuniak Springs City Council and the need for clarifications on behalf of the DeFuniak Springs Planning Board over a request for a local tavern. Mayor Pro Tempore James Huffman was not able to participate in the meetings due to a medical absence.
On Aug. 18, Council members faced a united front from staff requesting a new position to be added to the 2010 budget for a purchasing agent. Directors from almost all departments argued their case that a purchasing agent would help reduce cost, reduce duplication of services and streamline accessing assets already purchased, along with reduction of man-hours spent pursuing needed purchases in the middle of field jobs….
