Former Freeport basketball player Jamey Goddin has signed with Jefferson Davis Community College after playing last season at Northwest Florida State College as a walk-on on the men’s basketball team.
Goddin saw action in 12 games while scoring five points for the Raiders, but attracted the attention of the Jefferson Davis coaches to earn a scholarship at the Brewton school for his upcoming sophomore year. Goddin will play for Warhawks basketball coach Allen Gainer.
Goddin graduated from Freeport High School in 2008 after three stellar seasons on the Freeport boys basketball varsity squad.
Goddin scored 1,275 points in 86 games in his three seasons on the varsity squad, averaging 14.8 points per game while playing in every varsity contest during that time. Goddin led the Bulldogs to a 51-35 record and district titles in 2006 and 2007 under coach David Burke.
Goddin and his teammates were also the Class 2A boys basketball academic team champions, as the squad was honored twice by the FHSAA for work in the classroom during his time at the school.
Goddin was chosen to The DeFuniak Herald’s All-Area 5 Basketball First Team in 2008 and took home the Most Valuable Player Award on Freeport’s squad his senior year after leading the Area 5 in scoring with 21.2 points per game.
